LAST Week at a glance of the year

Dear parent(s)/guardian(s),
I can hardly believe there are 3 more days of school left! As the end is approaching, I would like to thank my students and parents for always having a burst of optimism and enthusiasm. Your child is  well on his/her way to one of the most rewarding programmes- French immersion is no walk in the park! I have observed so much growth in your child over the past ten months. I am certain your child will be a gift to a classroom next year.

To my students...
Remember that each day is a fresh new start and no matter what, you are entirely capable to do this. Félicitations et tous mes meilleurs voeux pour la deuxième année!

That said, the following is our last week at a glance of the year.

Monday, June 27th - Outdoor activity (chalk messages and games)
Tuesday, June 28th- Tie dye activity (bring a white or light coloured t-shirt)
Wednesday, June 29th - Bake cookies & Pot luck picnic at Edge Park

End of the year assembly will take place outside at 1:00 pm on June 29th (weather permitting).

P.S. A huge pat on the back to my students for returning all of their library books. Yippee!

P.P.S. Please bring a huge bag to collect duotangs/projects/artwork Monday, June 27th.

P.P.P.S.  Thursday, June 30th is a P.A. day. There will be no school for students.

Post scripts overtook this blog...

Fabulous Friday

We concluded our "Concours d'orthographe" (Spelling Bee) and I am proud to say that many students studied hard, even after the amazing Fun Fair last night. Bravo et félicitations!

And...the day was far from over. We found a cone of henna and celebrated Lily's birthday.

Finally, Jaya has asked me to share a wonderful website that strives to personalize children's books. The books can be written for any child, boy or girl, in any language, and with any characters.
Take a look!

Reminders

We are down to two weeks left of school!

Please be mindful of the following dates:

1. Fun Fair - Thursday, June 16th

2. Spelling Bee 'Concours d'orthographe' - Friday, June 17th
It will be a friendly spelling competition to review all of the words/articles/verbs a Grade 1 student should be familiar with by the end of the year. You will find in your child's agenda a list of words to study.
There will be a prize for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Bon étude!

3. 'Montre et raconte' (Family Timeline) - Monday, June 20th
The timelines are coming along brilliantly. The social studies project will be the final show and tell of the year. A kind reminder to the few students who still need to bring photos to do so before Friday. Merci!

As we 'ooh' and 'aah' the photos, we are taken away by how fast time flies!

P.S. The Alpha Jeune books in the reading packages (sac à livre) will continue to be read in class through Guided Reading centres and Mon partage de livre programme but will no longer be sent home.

Histoires d'abeilles

Bees are amazzzing!
They have much to teach us, they fascinate us, they are beautiful, and their importance to humans is beyond words. Honey bees, especially, are associated with the production of 1/3 of the worlds' food for humans (through pollination, but also honey), healing, and perhaps more than any other creature- if not the only creature, held up as setting a selfless example to humans on successful communities.

So, as the culminating activity to our narrative writing unit, students wrote a story of a honey bee.
Success Criteria
1. Story has a beginning, middle, and end.
2. Story has at least one character and setting explained in detail.
3. Story has a problem and a solution.
4. Writing conventions are respected (e.g., capitals, periods, spacing, spelling).

The students are enthusiastic and eager to present their stories to parents/guardians.
Je suis très fière de vous!

Lovely girls in my classroom have been picking flowers for me and wanted to share.

Through our honey bee stories, we have learned that if we are able to work collaboratively, then we can share some of the success of the honey bee. Only that the result of honey tastes much sweeter.

Note: Unfortunately, some videos were unable to upload, but the efforts of all students were well acknowledged by their peers in class.
