Enlightening day with Scientist Charlotte!

On Thursday, March 7th, the students in Room 111 were excited to meet with scientist Charlotte who introduced us to 5 hands-on energy centres. Charlotte has inspired us to explore and investigate STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) through practical resources and science experiments that can also be conducted at home!
The five centres included:
1.  Energy Conservation Center: Students identified how to build and maintain an eco friendly home (e.g., insulation, turning off taps/lights, adding a solar panel, etc.).

2. Heat Energy Center: Students investigated how different coloured fabrics affect the absorption of heat energy and the temperature of an object. We also conducted an experiment using soap and our body heat from friction.

3. Solar Energy Center: Students discovered how the sun affects the movement of air over land and water to create wind and constructed pinwheels.

4. Solar Panel Center: Students used a solar panel to spin a wheel, play music, and create a piece of artwork.

5. Light Energy Center: Students discovered the importance of the sun's energy in the growth of our food and tested the power of the sun's rays using sun glasses, sun screen, and a black shirt.

Many thanks to the fabulous SLT volunteers: Eva, Nashiya, Carisa, and Ashley.
