Dear parents/guardian, Throughout the duration of the Winter Olympics, the class and I will be wearing colours to support the team we are cheering for in the 2014 Winter Olympics. In Social Studies, we will be discussing how Olympic sports bring us together and how dreams and achievements know no geographical boundaries. As such, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send with your child newspapers/magazines regarding Olympic news. Merci!
The primary teachers have decided that it would be grand to have students take part in a school-wide Winter Carnival on Thursday, February 13th, 2014. The students took part in several activities around the school.
The Winter Carnival was a blast! Many students had positive feedback.

On Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, a Toronto based French author, Mireille Messier will be coming to do a workshop in our classroom. A package was sent home with your child indicating the details and a selection of books which can be purchased. If you wish to purchase a book, it will be autographed on that day.
Today is the Panther Assembly and what better way to celebrate the end of January with an exciting "Backwards Day"! In class, we will be doing an activity regarding a palindrome. A palindrome is a word, phrase, or number whose meaning may be interpreted the same way in either forward or reverse direction.
On Monday, February 10, 2014, students in Grades 1 to 3 will arrive at Roy Thomson Hall to listen to "Peter and the Wolf" concert. Please remind your child to bring the deposit money and the signed permission form before Friday, January 31st.

Welcome back! I am excited to begin the next chapter of our learning this term. I would like to update you on the concepts we will be learning in January.
In Language, we are beginning poetry. We will develop rhyming patterns in our writing procedures and read nursery rhymes, poems, and songs.
In Mathematics, we are wrapping up with problem solving questions regarding addition, subtraction, and money. We will begin the Measurement unit next week, wherein we will measure length, height, and distance using standard and non-standard units. In addition, we will use tally charts to gather information and represent it on bar graphs and pictographs.
In Science, we will put our "construction hats" on and delve into the unit on Movement. Students will discuss the six types of simple machines and use hands on materials in class to experiment with forces of movement. Language Points System
I understand students have just returned from the winter break, however, please encourage and remind your child to continue speaking in French in class. It is a requirement that the student speaks French throughout the entire instructional day. With the start of a new year, comes a new points system. When students speak English in class, they will accumulate points. Once the student reaches 10 points, a note will be sent home for you to sign, acknowledging that the student needs to make more of an effort using French. Together, you and I can work as a team to help your child attain a love for French and speak French with myself and his/her classmates.
I am already keeping track of some exceptional students who never forget to communicate in French, even outside of class. Bravo!
